Julie F. (Brinkman) Rivas
CHILLÁN – QUIRIQUINA, CHILE – Julie F. (Brinkman) Rivas, 83, of Chillán – Quiriquina, Chile, died at 9:04 a.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. She was born February 17, 1940 in Ft. Jennings to the late Cornelius and Barbara (Heitmeyer) Brinkman. On February 15, 1975, she married Jorge Rivas. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2022.
Survivors include four siblings: Annie Meyer of Kalida, Teresa Friemoth of Idyllwild, CA, Bob (Judy) Brinkman and Tom (Barb) Brinkman, both of Ottoville; a brother-in-law, Mike Swint of Ottoville; and many nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
She was preceded in death by three siblings: Ruthie Rosengarten, Rita A. Brinkman, and Aggie Swint; and three brothers-in-law: Jack Rosengarten, Kennie Meyer and John Friemoth.
Julie was a missionary. Her life’s work was dedicated to the poor in Chili. Together with her husband, she enriched their communities through developing housing and water systems.
Funeral Mass will begin 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with the Very Reverend George Mahas officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ottoville. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
