Karen Joyce Deitrick

  OAKWOOD - Karen J. Deitrick, 77, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024, at her home with her husband and daughters by her side after a short battle with cancer. 
  Karen was born September 30, 1946, in Findlay, Ohio, to the late Garold and Opal (Baughn) Casteel. She graduated from Deshler High School in 1964. On August 17, 1968, she married Eugene R. Deitrick, who survives in Oakwood.  Karen worked her entire career in the banking business.  Having worked at First Federal Bank, Defiance, Oakwood Deposit Bank, Oakwood and retiring from The State Bank in Oakwood in 2002.  After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering at The Bargain Bin in Paulding.  Her true passion was her grandchildren and watching them in all their activities.  You could always find her sitting in the stands cheering them on.  Karen loved reading, doing all kinds of puzzles and decorating the house for all holidays. 
   Karen will be deeply missed by her daughters:  Annette (Jack) Baumle of Payne and Brenda (Steve) Doster of Paulding; five grandchildren: Addison Baumle, Grant Baumle, Kaitlyn Doster, Macy Doster and Alex Doster; a sister, Janice Parker of Elida; a brother, Duane Casteel of South Lebanon; and her best friend of over 70 years, Judy Chemelewski, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Her presence in their lives was a source of love and strength, and her memory will forever be cherished. 
  She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and a sister, Jane Steiff. 
   Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood.  A private funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday following the visitation at the funeral home with Rev. Eileen Kochensparger officiating.
   In lieu of flowers, the family’s wishes are for the memorial donations to be given to the Bargain Bin, Paulding, Ohio or CHP of Paulding.
