Kenneth “Ken” Evans
OTTAWA – Kenneth “Ken” Evans, 81, of Ottawa, passed away at 11:23 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born December 18, 1940 in New York, NY to the late John C. and Veronica (Baleck) Evans. On September 10, 1966 he married Arlene Noll, she survives in Ottawa.
Ken is also survived by two children: Michael (Becca) Evans of Sunbury, and Nancy (David) Parry of Hamler; five grandchildren: Lindsay Parry, Kayla Parry, Jacob Parry, Keara Evans, and Makenna Evans; a sister: Mary (Frank) Jermance of Denver, CO.; and his uncle/godfather: Kenneth (Marie) Evans.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Jack Evans.
Ken served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator. He was very proud of Navy service as a Lt. Commander. He would land on an aircraft carrier and was also an instructor. Ken then worked for 32 years as a pilot for United Airlines. He was an avid hiking and mountaineering enthusiast. He climbed Long’s Peak Summit in 1996, this was one of his favorite accomplishments. Ken was very dedicated to his family. He was generous, reservedly witty and meticulous. He was a very careful instructor, and patiently explained the how and why. Ken was also a firm believer in having a back-up. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa and the Lucas Lions Club.
Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Father Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites by the Ottawa Legion, VFW, Amvets and DAV. A visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Mass at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.
