Mary Lou T. Ellerbrock
GLANDORF - Mary Lou T. Ellerbrock, 87, of Glandorf died peacefully surrounded by her family at 8:11 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 at The Meadows of Ottawa. She was born April 30,1934 in Leipsic to the late Louis and Adeline (Winkler) Selhorst. On November 14, 1956, she married Arthur Ellerbrock. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2020.
Survivors include three children: Michael (Karen) Ellerbrock of Ottawa, Kathy Peck of Glandorf, and Alan Ellerbrock of Columbus; four grandchildren: Mandy (Mac) McKnight, Dylan (Ciara) Ellerbrock, Derek Ellerbrock, and Kasey Ellerbrock; one great-grandchild; Quinn McKnight; and brother-in-law Jim Riepenhoff of Miller City.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Ellerbrock; a daughter, Shirley Recker; three sisters: Kathleen Riley, Marjorie Verhoff, and Dorothy Riepenhoff; two brothers: Louis Selhorst Jr. and Larry Selhorst; two brother-in-laws: Jay Riley and Joe Verhoff Sr.; and a sister-in-law Alice Selhorst.
Mary Lou graduated from Leipsic High School and attended business school in Lima where she also worked at Albers Super Market and Sue Bee Honey. After marrying Art, they moved to Glandorf where they raised five children. From 1968-1971 they owned the Dairy Whip, which is now known as the Bombshelter. Besides being a loving wife and mother, she worked at Ottawa Canning Company, Warren Printing, and eventually retired from Phillips Display Components.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Ottawa Senior Center, the American Legion, and the Ottawa Eagles.
Mary Lou was a good-hearted woman who enjoyed spending time with her family and grandkids. She will be most remembered for the unconditional love she gave to her family and all that knew her. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing pinochle and euchre, sporting events, music and singing, dining out, casino trips, and traveling with Art in her earlier years. She also enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s events, playing peek-a-boo with Quinn, and reminiscing about the good old days.
The funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf with Father Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. There will be a scripture service at 1:45 p.m. and a parish rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggest that as you remember Mary Lou, do so with a random act of kindness, a kind word for a stranger or a prayer for peace. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Putnam County Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
