Melvin E. Lauf, Sr.
OTTAWA – Melvin E. Lauf, Sr., 83, of Ottawa, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born September 15, 1939 in Cairo to the late Theodore and Florence (Kuhbander) Lauf. On July 19, 1969, he married Betty Jo Myers, who survives in Ottawa.
Melvin is also survived by three children: Michelle (Todd) Rye of Ottawa, Melvin Lauf, Jr. of Newport News, VA and Holly K. Carman of Fostoria; five grandchildren: Zachary Mains, Eileen (Kyle) Archer, Jacob Carmen, Tish (Josh) Muter and Kyle Shank; five great-grandchildren: Melvin Muter, Jaxton Archer, Holley Archer, Diana Hammer and Aurora Hammer; four siblings: Ray Lauf, Fred (Denise) Lauf, both of Ottawa, Ruth (Alvin) Unverferth of Glandorf, Robert Lauf of Napoleon; and a sister-in-law, Carol Lauf of Ottawa.
He was also preceded in death by four siblings: Jay (Audrey) Lauf, Urban Lauf, Kenny Lauf and Norma (Bob) Wueller; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Lauf.
Melvin retired from Philips, Ottawa. He also worked as a carpenter. Melvin was a member of the Ottawa Knights of Columbus and its 4th Degree, where he enjoyed cleaning. He was also a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, where he served as groundskeeper for the church cemetery. Melvin enjoyed bowling, softball, watching racing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 – 8 p.m. on Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa, where a K of C Rosary Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held Tuesday from 9 – 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
