Mildred M. Agner
OTTAWA – Mildred M. Agner, of Ottawa died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, January 28, 2023, just five days after her 97th birthday. She was born January 23, 1926 in Ottawa to the late John and Clara (Maas) Hermiller. On December 16, 1949 she married Robert E. Agner. He died January 1, 2014.
Mildred is survived by seven children: John (Pat) Agner of Ottawa, Jeanne (Wayne Macdonald) Agner of Richmond, Vermont, Jim Agner of Beaverdam, Laurie (Tim Mershman) Agner of Ottawa, Anita (Jon) Loman of Ottawa, Scott (Krystal Crawford) Agner of Wickliffe, and Peggy (Kevin) Cantrell of Ottawa; son-in-law, Mark (Karen) Nienberg of Ottawa; 15 grandchildren: Bryce Agner, Murray (Megan Kraner) Agner, Curtis Agner, Kristen Macdonald, Erik (Audrey) Agner, Gabby Gremling, April Nienberg Hamel, Adam (Jaymee) Nienberg, BJ Mershman, Jonathon (Jackie) Mershman, Jamie (Greg) Verhoff, Lindsey Loman, Kelsey (Tyler Winhover) Cantrell, Tyler Cantrell, Trevor Cantrell; and 19 great-grandchildren: Jameson and Evelyn Agner, Khloe and Connor Agner, Morgan and Jacob Nienberg, Ryan and Allison Mershman, Elena, Owen and Quinn Verhoff, Lily Loman- Antoine, William and Jonathan Keller, Millie Joy Agner and adopted great-grandchildren: Oliver, Landen, Elliott and Benjamin Stechschulte; and a sister, Mary “Toots” Wray Dubbs of Cincinnati.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Nienberg; a grandson, Benjamin Loman; her brothers: Francis “Hank” Hermiller and Robert “Bob” Hermiller; a sister, Angela Lammers; sisters-in-law: Jane Hermiller, Jeanne Hermiller Lytle, Ruth Droll and Shirley Berron; and brothers-in-law: Kim Wray, Don Lammers, Marvin Dubbs, Charles Agner and Art Droll.
Mil was an RN with Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa and St. Rita’s, Lima. She was a 1944 graduate of Sts. Peter and Paul High School and St. Rita’s Nursing Program.
Bob and Mil raised Standardbred and Thoroughbred racehorses on their farm in Ottawa where she performed many duties for the business. They also enjoyed over 20 winters in Florida. Mil was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa and the longest standing member of the Ottawa American Legion Post 63 Auxiliary. She was also active in the Red Cross.
Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Rick Friebel and her nephew, Deacon Thomas Wray officiating. Burial will follow in Harman Cemetery, Gilboa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday and one hour prior to the mass Thursday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa with a scripture service at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday evening.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ottawa American Legion auxiliary, Sts. Peter and Paul School or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
