MILDRED T. VORST
KALIDA - Mildred Therese Vorst, 95, passed from this world and followed our Lord to heaven on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 2:20 p.m.
Millie was born on April 23, 1926, five minutes after her twin sister, Margaret Siefker of Glandorf. She was the 9th child of Martha (Morman) and Bernard Warnecke. Millie attended the Baseline School and Glandorf school, which she spoke of fondly.
On June 4, 1947, Millie married Harold Vorst and celebrated over 59 years of marriage until Harold’s death on January 26, 2006. Millie was a very talented farm wife, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and true friend to many. Her love and devotion to her faith was foremost in her life. Millie was a member of the Kalida Rosary Sodality and was past president of the Kalida Catholic Ladies of Columbia (CL of C).
Millie is survived by three sons, Dennis (Norma) Vorst of Kalida, David (Janet) Vorst of Independence, Kentucky, and Duane (Beth) Vorst of Columbus Grove; and three daughters, Margaret (Marge) and Leonard (Butch) Kehres of Ottoville, Karen (Tom) Horrell of Leawood Kansas, and Linda (Jeffrey) Altenburger of Ottoville. Millie is also survived by three sons-in-law, Jim (Sally) Heck of Lima, Robert (Carol) Altenburger of Amherst, and Joe Wantuch of Mason; her sister, Margaret Siefker of Glandorf, and two sister-laws, Elaine Schroeder of Columbus Grove and Helen Warnecke of Glandorf.
Millie and Harold enjoyed their many grandchildren: Amy (Kevin) Sheehan,, Wendy Heck (Alan Stanley), Natalie Vorst, Craig (Sheila) Vorst, Greg Kehres, Andrew (Cassie) Kehres, Kimberly (Alan) Hilvers, Sam (Rachael) Horrell, Michael (Milkie) Horrell, Katie Horrell, Dana Altenburger (Sonny Lamancusa), Ben (Jodi) Altenburger, Adam (Ashley) Altenburger, Alan Vorst, Luke (Christiana) Vorst, Brent (Lindsey) Vorst, Jordan (Allison) Vorst, Stephanie Vorst, Todd (Julie) Altenburger, Ross (Kristen) Altenburger, Matthew (Jena) Altenburger, Zach (Jessica) Vorst, Tyler (Francesca) Vorst, Jeremy (Linda) Vorst, Trent Vorst, Kelli (Kolt) Vorst, Amy Vorst, Jack Wantuch and Francesca Wantuch. Preceding Millie in death are: her husband, Harold, three daughters, Rose Ann Heck, Mary Lou Altenburger and Therese Wantuch; two grandsons, Jeff Vorst and Joseph Kehres; sisters, Lenore (Wilfred) Schiffli, Marcella (Sally) (Alvin) Recker, and Rosemary (Charlie) Siefker; brothers, Rudolph (Dorothy) Warnecke, Lambert (Teresa) Warnecke, Urban Warnecke and infant brothers Thomas and Elmer Warnecke; in-laws, Paul Siefker, Elmer (Audrey) Vorst, Sarah (Alfred) Meyer, Carl (Ruth) Vorst, Dave Schroeder, and Tom Vorst (Joan).
We would be remiss not to mention Millie’s 20 years at Campbell’s Soup in Napoleon. Millie was hired in as the first ‘Lady Guard’. It was joked that if she could keep control of her large family, she would do well keeping others in line.
Funeral mass will be Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kalida with burial in the Kalida St. Michael Cemetery. Fr. Mark Hoying will officiate. Visitation will be Monday, July 19th at 2 p.m. until 8 p.m at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.
