Orley Kyle Matson
CLOVERDALE - Orley Kyle Matson, 83 of Cloverdale, died 12:35 a.m., Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Shawnee Manor. He was born August 16, 1939, in Dupont to the late Gerald and Lucille (Osenga) Matson. On November 26, 1960, he married Patricia "Pat" Wannemacher and she survives in Lima.
Other survivors include five children: Laurie (Gene) Knippen of Ottoville, Kyle (Sheri) Matson of Flower Mound, TX., Brenda (Earl) Recker of Ottawa, Julie (Kurt) Kuhlman of Lima and Greg (Danielle) Matson of Ashburn, VA.; eleven grandchildren: Dustin Knippen, Kyle J. Matson, Kevin Recker, Craig Recker, Amanda (Xavier) DiSabato, Jamie Kuhlman, Derek Kuhlman, Kylie Kuhlman, Joshua Kuhlman, Emery Matson, and Estelle Matson; great-grandchildren: Saige Matson and Baby DiSabato (arriving in April); a half-brother, Jack Matson; and sisters-in-law: Sue Matson and Lillian Looser.
He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren: Cory and Kyle Recker; four siblings: Nolan (Ursula) Matson, Norma (Walter) Priest, Catherine (Mel) Brinkman and Rolland Matson; and a brother-in-law, Bill Looser.
Orley was a graduate of Grover Hill High School. He served in the Army National Guard. Orley worked as a supervisor at Philips, Ottawa for 41 years. He was a member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, Cloverdale, and its Holy Name Society. Orley was very hardworking; he was a handyman that could fix anything.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, Cloverdale with Father George Mahas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a scripture service at 4:45 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township, and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church.
