Orlo Gene Spence
LEIPSIC – Orlo Gene Spence, 94, of Leipsic, died at 12:26 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay. He was born October 16, 1926 in Hancock County to the late Howard and Mary (Keckler) Spence. On September 30, 1972 he married Elizabeth “Betty” Kuhlman, she survives in Leipsic.
Orlo is also survived by three children: Susan (Gary) Rayle of Deshler, Rick (Brenda) Spence of Arcadia and Jerry Spence of Deshler; four step-children: Steven (Jane) Macke of Mt. Blanchard, Stanley Macke of Findlay, Joseph (Fay)Macke of McComb, Jennie (Dave) Delancy of North Baltimore; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister: Doris Botjer of Deshler.
He is preceded in death by a son: Randy Spence; a daughter-in-law: Kim Spence; a grandson: Shane Spence; a great-granddaughter: Lydia Macke; three brothers: Howard, George and Tommy; and five sisters: Anna, Alice, Gracie, Virginia and Sarah.
Orlo was seventeen when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Blue, Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was a member of the Gilboa American Legion, Leipsic Eagles, and the Findlay Moose Lodge. He was a member of Leipsic United Methodist Church.
Funeral services and burial will be private. A military service will be held by Leipsic and Gilboa American Legions. Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic.
