Reta O. Sadowy Winkler

  LEIPSIC – Reta O. Sadowy Winkler 93, of Leipsic, died 8:13 p.m., Friday, January 1, 2021 at the Meadows of Leipsic.  She was born July 5, 1927 in Sanilac County, MI to the late Elias and Catherine (Willis) Williamson.  On August 31, 1946 she married Chester Sadowy.  He died June 14, 1973.  She then married Donald Winkler on July 1, 1977.  He died June 3, 2009.

  Survivors include three children: Gary (Beverly) Sadowy of North Street, MI, Catherine (Lynn) Staples of Sandusky, MI and John (Cindy) Sadowy of Applegate, MI; six grandchildren: Brent(Alison) Sadowy, Kevin(Lauren) Sadowy, Ryan(Erinn) Sadowy, Rebeccalynn (Ed) Devine, Dwayne(Lee) Staples and Derrik Staples; ten great-grandchildren: Milla, Alexander, Dominic, Gavin, Stephen, Rachel, Mitchell, Avalyn, Josh and Opal; a sister-in-law, Jean Sadowy of Applegate, MI; and special friend, Betty Knott of Columbus Grove.

  She was also preceded in death by a stillborn son; three siblings: Telford Williamson, Delores McIntire and Lila Williamson; and a special nephew, Larry McIntire.

  Reta retired from Philips formerly of Ottawa in 1992.  She was a member of First Christian Church, Leipsic and a 1945 graduate of Carsonville High School in Michigan.  Reta loved the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings and polka dancing. She and her son John loved tearing up the dance floor.  She was an avid polka booster, former president of the Ohio Polka Boosters and very proud of her Marv Herzog #44 jacket.  In her youth, she played guitar and sang in a local band.  Reta was very active throughout her life and loved to travel.  She always had a suitcase packed so she was ready for the next trip.  He also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing any special life events or activities.  She was known to many as “Grandma French Fry” and enjoyed her coffee group at The Meadows.  Reta was dearly loved by many and will be missed.

  Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic with Pastor Tim Eding.  Private burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peck, MI. In keeping with social distancing guidelines, visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.  Masks are required upon entry.  A public celebration will occur at a later date for all to enjoy memories of Reta.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Putnam County Hospice or Marlette Hospice.
