Vera Tenwalde

     OTTAWA -- Vera Tenwalde, resident of Ottawa, Ohio, died peacefully on September 8, 2017 at the age of 88.

     Vera is survived by her children Carol (Richard) Koretz, Gary (Pam) Tenwalde and Michelle (Scott) Downing and her daughter-in-law Teresa. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bob", her son Mark and grandson Steven. Vera has 7 grandchildren; Erica, Robert, Addison, Eve Maria, Lee, Johnothon and Angela.  Vera has 4 step grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren.

     Vera was born in Lima on November 18, 1928 to Matilda and George Altenberger and has a surviving brother Walter Altenberger of Lima and a sister Dorothy Keko of Detroit.  After graduating high school, Vera loving numbers got into the banking business. She started as the filing manager for the City Loan and Savings in Lima and worked her way up through the ranks ending up as Vice President of Investments at the Ohio Bank in Ottawa.

     At 20 she met and later married Robert (Bob) Tenwalde. When asked why she married Bob she said he just wouldn’t take “NO” for an answer and he needed my wizardry with numbers for his building business. They had four children over the span of 20 years. They shared a deep love of card playing and dancing with her very favorite song being “It had to be you.”

     Aside from her business career and family, Vera was known for her fabulous smile and that she never met a stranger. Vera put everyone at ease with her compassion and gentle personality. In addition to her many talents, Vera LOVED to decorate and no holiday was too small for her unique touch.

     Vera will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Vera’s memory will live on with the retelling of her funny and amazing adventures with Bob, Family and her many Friends.

     A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday September 14, 2017 at 10 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ottawa with Fr. Rick Friebel officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday September 13, from 6-8pm at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa, where a scripture service will be held at 7:50 p.m.
