Walter J. Schroeder
LEIPSIC – Walter J. Schroeder, 89 of Leipsic died Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at his residence. He was born January 26, 1931 in Leipsic to the late Bernard H. and Martha (Niese) Schroeder. On October 17, 1951 he married Mary Lou Schroeder who survives in Leipsic.
Other survivors include five children: Sandy (Bob Elliott) Schroeder of Findlay, Steven Schroeder of Leipsic, Jim (Karen) Schroeder of Leipsic, Lori (Karl) Streacker of Findlay and Rob (Dana) Schroeder of Monclova; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and a sister Frances Greenawalt of Beach Grove, IN.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Walt Schroeder Jr.; and four sisters: Esther McCallister, Dorothy Rampe, Edna Lauer and Phyllis Schroeder.
Walter was a self-employed manufacturer of Schroeder Loaders who received two patents for his inventions, The Schroeder Loader in 1959 and The Schroeder Flip Deck Mower from 1984 to 2015. He also manufactured a Rye Harvesting Combine that is still used in Deshler today. He was a US Army Corporal who early registered during the Korean War receiving a Purple Heart after being shot through the knee in Japan. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic, Leipsic FVW, Leipsic Eagles, Disabled American Veterans and Ottawa Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree.
A funeral mass for Walter and his son Steven will begin 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. William Pifher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Leipsic American Legion and VFW. Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic. Due to regulations regarding the COVID-19, masks and social distancing are required at the church.
