Donald W. Taylor

     Oakwood –Donald W. Taylor, 73 of Oakwood died 12:15 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017 at St. Rita’s Inpatient Hospice, Lima surrounded by his family.  He was born January 8, 1944 in Dungannon, VA to the late John Henry and Lottie (Oakley) Taylor.  On March 17, 1968 he married Ruth L. Adams, and they were married for 48 years.  She survives in Oakwood.

     He is also survived by his children:  Karl (Mary Jo) Miller, John Taylor, Lori Butler and Mary (Steve) Akers, all of Oakwood; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Mike (Brenda) Taylor of Dungannon, VA, Oscar (Melanie) Trivett of Defiance and Larry (Phyllis) Taylor of Kingsport, TN;  2 sisters:  Glenda (Ed) Anderson of Florida and Sandy (Steve) Collins of Dungannon, VA; a sister-in-law:  Judy Taylor of Coeburn, VA; a brother-in-law:  Darrell Mays of Dungannon, VA and his dog, Buddy.

     Donald is preceded in death by a daughter:  Tammy Miller; a brother:  Jim Taylor; 3 sisters:  Freida Taylor, Betty Hall and Carolyn Mays; 2 great-grandsons:  Benji Collins and Jesse Taylor.

     Donald retired after his heart transplant in 1999 from Johns-Manville, Defiance, where he worked for 33 years.  He also played on Johns-Manville softball team.  He owned the Oakleaf Restaurant, Oakwood.  He was on the Oakwood Fire Department from 1980-1981 and was also the former Chief of Police for the Village of Oakwood.  He umped softball games, loved to mow his yard and be outside. 

   The funeral service for Donald will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood with Rev. Stan Harmon officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday from11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

     Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
