Wow. A legend has passed. My favorite band instructor at KHS. Even got the chance to play in a jazz quartet with him for a bit. A great friend of the family, and an excellent human being. We'll miss you, Mr. N.

I was one of Mr. Nordhaus' students at Ottawa-Glandorf for eight years, graduating in 1998. He taught us all the value of hard work and the pride that we felt when that hard work paid off. I will never forget the excitement of our successes in marching band, especially my junior year, or the sense of accomplishment of being able to join Wind Ensemble my senior year thanks to the lessons he gave me. He will be missed!

My favorite memories from OGHS were from the baseball diamond and the band room. Fred was definitely one of the most influential teacher/instructors I've ever known. I am glad to have known him.

We share your sorrow. We so enjoyed being band parents while Fred taught at Wapakoneta High School! He truly was a gifted teacher and a compassionate man! His influence helped our daughters continue with music throughout college and beyond. Blessings and peace to those who love him dearly!

My deepest sympathies to the Nordhaus family. Mr. Nordhaus was my band director at Wapakoneta High School. He taught us a lot. We competed in several marching and concert band competitions receiving superior ratings. He took wapakoneta to the next level and put the city on the map. We even performed at the Ohio State Fair. I know in my graduating class, several of us auditioned and performed in college marching band. He was admired, respected, and will be greatly missed.

To the family and friends of Mr. Nordhaus, I had the pleasure of being a band student of Mr. Nordhaus for about 8 years, graduating in 1997. Fred was tough on us band kids, but taught us how to be hard workers. He was the reason we were the best brass band around and did so much for the band program. Thank you for sharing him with Ottawa-Glandorf! Thoughts and prayers to all of you! Kendra (Hoyt) Kuhlman, OGHS 1997 Graduate

Even though he instructed both of our sons with their band instruments, I came to know Fred best while I played the clarinet in O-G Community Band. I am so appreciative for the many years that Fred gave to leading our group. I will always think of Fred when I hear a Sousa march. He had high expectations for our musicality and challenged us to play better than we thought we could. Our sympathy to Pat and the Nordhaus family.

We are extremely saddened and shocked to hear of your passing. You were an amazing band director and your passion for music was contagious to all those you taught. We were also very lucky to have you as our next-door neighbor for the past 14 years. We will miss our small chats outside and seeing our kids asking to play on Fred's front porch and backyard. We will even miss the occasional golf balls we found in our pool area:) May you Rest in Peace. God Bless you dear neighbor.

To the man who made me want to join band and play the cornet in 5th grade, after I had moved into the school district. You will be missed! Mr. Nordhaus made all of us "bandskies" strive for excellence. There was never anything less that he expected. Rest easy Fred!

To my favorite band instructor there ever was and will be. You were so grand, standing up on your perch directing our band with every step we took. May God place you in charge of the most glorious, angelic band in heaven. Bluffton High School Marching Band '75-78 was a force to be reckoned with because of you. You will forever be remembered in my heart.

I am very sorry to hear of "Mr. Nordhaus" passing. As a parent of a OG musician, I have a difficult time expressing everything he did for my daughter to help guide her to her goal of becoming a professional musician. Every opportunity that came across his desk as a band director he would pass on to Jenny. One of my proudest moments is at the awards ceremony for for my daughter when she was awarded the Semper Fidelis award for Musical Excellence from a uniformed Marine. I know Mr. Nordhaus made that possible. I also remember him saying as a musician in the OG Community Band, "Come on you guys, put some feeling into this music, you lived life, you know the good and the bad, use those emotions to improve your playing, I can't tell that to a group of high school students. I remember those words of encouragement when I'm playing with the LACB. Rest in peace Mr. Nordhaus Vickie Barteck

Fred...your passing was sudden. We are in shock but so glad you didn't suffer. Just saw you two weeks ago...you were quiet, pale, silently suffering....as was your way. Hard to believe we were sailboat shopping for you a month ago and enjoying northern Michigan and the wineries in June.. There will always be a void at the euchre table and the holiday table without your help, you at my right elbow and my mom enjoying your quiet company. We are all making plans to come from afar to celebrate you and what you meant to us. You will be missed Fred. ,,,always. Gretchen
