Melvin M. Wagner

     Miller City -- Melvin M. Wagner, 86 of Miller City died 1:08 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at his residence.  He was born August 11, 1930 in North Creek to the late Virgil A. and Stella W. (Brown) Wagner.  On May 16, 1953 he married Eileen A. Alt, who survives in Miller City. 

     Also surviving are his 5 children:  Richard (Debra) Wagner of Deshler, Pamela (Bob) Tobe of Ottawa, Linda (Jim Bishop) Nelson of Napoleon, Scott (Kim) Wagner of Miller City and Valerie (Pat) Verhoff of Miller City; 12 grandchildren:  Ryan Wagner, April Schroeder, Todd Wagner, Chris Nelson, Shelly Nelson, Matt Nelson, Brittany Schnipke, Ashley Wagner, Logan Wagner, Tyler Verhoff, Abby Verhoff and Allison Verhoff; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law:  Flo Wagner of Miller City.

     In addition to his parents, Melvin is preceded in death by a brother:  Herbert Wagner.

     Melvin was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City.  He retired from Allied Egry, Leipsic after 45 years. He previously worked for the B & O Railroad, Holgate.  He had been a 25 year member of the Miller City Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City.

     Melvin was a Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the  Miller City American Legion and a life member of the New Bavaria VFW.  He was also a member of the Ottawa Eagles and the Miller City Sportsman Club.

     He loved to watch the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Detroit Tigers.  He also enjoyed playing cards.  His greatest love was spending time with his family and watching the grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their many activities.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m.Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at St. Nichols Catholic Church with Father Stephen Schroeder officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, North Creek.  Military rite by the Miller City American Legion and New Bavaria VFW.  Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture service will be held at 1:45 p.m.

     Memorial contributions may be made to Home Helpers of Ottawa and Putnam County Homecare and Hospice.
