LEIPSIC - Cleo L. Schroeder, 94, of Leipsic died at 6:54 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born March 12, 1923 in Leipsic to the late Vincent C. and Anna (Winkler) Schroeder. On June 15, 1948, he married Kathleen Oedy who survives in Leipsic.
Also surviving are 2 children: Connie (Don) Dehnart of Ottawa and Marvin (Amy) Schroeder of McComb; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way; a daughter-in-law: Dorothy Schroeder of Glandorf; 5 brothers and sisters: Rita Oedy of Toledo, Leona Korte, Norman (Marilyn) Schroeder, Othmer (Rita) Schroeder, and Leon "George" (Karen) Schroeder, all of Leipsic; and a sister-in-law: Fanny Schroeder of Leipsic.
He was preceded in death by a son: Lynn Schroeder; a brother: Harold Schroeder; and 2 brothers-in-law: Chuck Korte and Clifton Oedy.
Cleo was a farmer. He was a WWII Army veteran receiving the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was an American POW and the last living WWII POW in Putnam County. He was a life member and strong supporter of the Leipsic American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War, DAV, AMVETS and the Leipsic Eagles. A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic and Holy Name Society, and Ottawa Knights of Columbus.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. William Pifher and Fr. Tom Oedy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Leipsic American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic, and one hour prior to the Mass Wednesday at the church. There will be a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic or Fisher House Foundation, assisting wounded soldiers and their families.
