Leon I. “Shorty” Niese

  LEIPSIC – Leon I. “Shorty” Niese, 82, of Leipsic, died 9:55 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2016 at Bridge Hospice, Findlay.  He was born December 11, 1933 in Leipsic to the late Isidore and Anna (Goedde) Niese.  On September 12, 1956, he married Eileen Laubenthal and she survives in Leipsic.

  Also surviving are two children: Carol (Dan) Siebeneck and Douglas (Della) Niese both of Leipsic; five grandchildren: Sara (Rob) Gossard, Danielle (Shane) Kleman, Mike Siebeneck, Stephanie (Randy) Henry and Breanna Niese; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Ruth (Carl) Vorst of Kalida and Marie Laudick of Cloverdale.

  He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Jim Niese and Donald Niese; and a brother-in-law, Don Laudick.

 Leon was an engineer for CSX. He was a US Army Veteran serving in the 187th Army Airborne regiment during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Willard American Legion #514, Leipsic VFW #9547, Leipsic Eagles #2793, Willard Elks and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic.

  A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Leipsic with Fr. William Pifher officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with honors by the Leipsic VFW and American Legion.  Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic.

  Memorial donations may be sent to St. Mary’s Church or Bridge Hospice.
