NEW CLEVELAND—Melvin E. Schroeder, 82 of New Cleveland died 9:45 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017 at his residence. He was born February 10, 1935 in Glandorf to the late A. I. and Marcele (Recker) Schroeder. On May 30, 1959 he married Esther L. Schulte, who survives, and they recently celebrated 58 years together.
Melvin is also survived by his 6 children: Connie (Dan) Cassidy, Joe (Linda) Schroeder, and Steve (Judy) Schroeder all of Ottawa, and Larry (Daisy) Schroeder, Rose (Pat) Inkrott, and Dennis (Laura) Schroeder all of Leipsic; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and 4 brothers: Clete (Mary Ann) Schroeder of Ottawa, Ed (Tammy) Schroeder of Kalida, John (Eileen) Schroeder of Ottawa, and Paul (Nancy) Schroeder of New Bavaria; 3 sisters: Jeanne Bialecki of Ottawa, Mary (Tom) Schroeder of Ottawa, and Wilma (Ralph) Schnipke of Cloverdale.
He is preceded in death by a brother: Bob Schroeder and a brother-in-law: Jim Bialecki.
Melvin retired after 40 years from ODOT and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland. Melvin was a life member of the Ottawa K. of C. and had been a coordinator with his wife for Worldwide Marriage Encounter. He most treasured his wife and family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Msgr. Charles E. Singler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic where a scripture service will be held 3 p.m. and a K of C Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
